This ChangFeng VIN decoder reads the 17 characters of a VIN and tells you the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for the brand covers two models, for example Flying and SUV, with model years from 2007 to 2016. The body style in our data is SUV, and the highest power we have on record is 103 hp.
The decoder reads only the VIN itself, so it shows nothing about a particular car's past. Accidents, mileage, theft and previous owners are not stored in the VIN. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report, while the decoder stays free and needs no registration.
Every VIN of a car built since 1981 has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. At the moment we have no WMI codes on record for ChangFeng, so we cannot list any here. Our list is not complete, and a VIN that starts with other characters is not a problem in itself.
The tenth character gives the model year. For the 2007 to 2016 range in our ChangFeng data, that means a 7 for 2007, an 8 for 2008 and a 9 for 2009, then the letters A to G for 2010 to 2016. A VIN with G in position 10 points to model year 2016, for example. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is a check digit, character 11 marks the plant and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
The check digit is required in North America, while many European VINs fill that position differently. So do not judge a VIN by position 9 alone.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

The VIN is usually printed on a plate visible at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side, and it is also stamped on the body. You will find it on the registration documents as well. Compare all of them, since they should show the same 17 characters.
The first three characters are the WMI, which names the manufacturer and the country. We have no WMI codes on record for ChangFeng yet, so we cannot list any. A VIN that starts with other characters is not wrong, because our list is not complete.
Look at the tenth character. In the 2007 to 2016 range of our data, 7 means 2007, 9 means 2009, A means 2010 and G means 2016. The decoder does this for you when you enter the full VIN.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or previous owners, because none of that is contained in the VIN. It also says nothing about the condition of an individual car.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the VIN in the documents, and that the model year the decoder gives fits the description in the advert. Then inspect the car in person, ask for its service records and have a mechanic look at it if you can.
