This page decodes the VIN of a Brilliance for free, with no registration. Enter the 17 characters and the decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture from the number itself. Our data covers seven Brilliance models, among them the A1, BS4, BS6, M1, M2, M3 and V3, with model years from 2000 to 2015.
The decoder reads only the VIN, so it cannot tell you about accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.
Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used, so they are not confused with 1 and 0. The first three characters are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI. For Brilliance, the code we recognise is LSY, and it belongs to China. If your VIN starts with LSY, the decoder will name the manufacturer and the country straight away. Our list of codes is not complete, so a VIN that starts with other characters is not a reason for concern.
Characters 4 to 8 are the descriptor section, where the maker encodes details of the vehicle. Our version data for Brilliance includes Hatchback and Sedan body styles, and the highest power we have on record is 170 hp. Character 9 is the check digit. It is required in North America, while many European VINs fill it in differently.
Character 10 is the model year. Our Brilliance data runs from 2000 to 2015, so the letters you are most likely to meet are Y for 2000, the digits 1 to 9 for 2001 to 2009, and the letters A for 2010, B for 2011, C for 2012, D for 2013, E for 2014 and F for 2015. Character 11 marks the plant where the car was built, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number of that particular vehicle.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |

A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

The VIN is commonly stamped on a plate at the base of the windscreen or printed on a sticker at the door pillar. It also appears in the registration documents. Compare the number on the car with the one on the paperwork.
The first three characters are the WMI. The code we map to Brilliance is LSY, which belongs to China. Characters 4 to 8 then describe the vehicle in the maker's own coding.
Look at the 10th character of the VIN. For example, A stands for 2010, B for 2011 and F for 2015, while the digits 1 to 9 stand for 2001 to 2009. Our Brilliance data covers 2000 to 2015.
It reads only the characters of the VIN, so it gives the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture. A VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft records or owners.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the number in the documents, and decode it to see that the model year fits the car you are being offered. Then inspect the car in person and ask the seller for service records.
