What is a Brabham VIN decoder?

This page decodes Brabham VINs. Enter the 17 characters and the decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture from the VIN itself. Our data currently lists one Brabham model, the BT62, with the model year 2018.

The decoder reads only the VIN, so it cannot tell you anything about a particular car's past. Accidents, mileage, theft records and previous owners are not stored in a VIN, and that information comes from a paid vehicle history report.

What the Brabham decoder shows

  • The manufacturer and brand (Brabham)
  • The model year
  • The country of manufacture
  • The assembly plant, when it is coded
  • The vehicle type and body style, where the manufacturer encodes it
  • Engine and model details, where available
  • Whether the VIN structure and check digit are valid

How to read the VIN of a Brabham

A VIN has 17 characters and never uses the letters I, O or Q. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is a check digit, character 10 is the model year, character 11 is the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.

For Brabham we do not have a WMI code mapped yet, so we cannot list any first-three-character combinations or countries of manufacture here. Our WMI list is not complete, and a VIN that starts with other characters is not wrong for that reason. As we add codes, they will appear on this page.

The model year is easier to check. Our version data covers 2018 only, and the tenth character for that year is J. A Brabham BT62 from our data would therefore be expected to show J in that position. Body style and power figures are not available in our data for this brand.

How a VIN is built

Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.

Check digit9Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid

Learn more about VINs

A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Before you buy a used Brabham

  • Compare the VIN on the dashboard, the door frame and the documents. All three should match.
  • Look for signs of tampering around the VIN plate and the door frame sticker.
  • Ask for the service history and check it against the car.
  • Run a full history report to see recorded damage, mileage and theft records.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find the VIN on a Brabham?

Look at the registration documents first, then compare with the car itself. On most cars the VIN is stamped on a plate or visible at the base of the windscreen, but the exact place can vary.

What do the first characters of a Brabham VIN mean?

The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. We have no WMI code mapped to Brabham at the moment, so we cannot name one. That is a gap in our list and says nothing about any particular VIN.

How do I find the model year of a Brabham from the VIN?

Check the tenth character. In our data the BT62 is covered for 2018, and the letter for that year is J. The decoder shows the year it reads from this position.

What can the Brabham VIN decoder not show?

It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft status or the number of previous owners, because none of that is part of a VIN. It also does not give body style or power for this brand, as we have no data on those.

What should I check before buying a used Brabham?

Make sure the VIN on the car matches the number in the documents, and that it has 17 characters without I, O or Q. Then inspect the car in person and ask the seller for service records.
