Enter a 17-character VIN and the BAIC Motor decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture from it. Our data for the brand covers 3 models, among them the BJ 2020, Senova D50 and Senova X55, with model years from 1989 to 2020. The body styles we hold are Wagon, Sedan and SUV, and the highest power figure in our data is 150 hp.
The decoder reads only the VIN itself, so it cannot tell you about accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report, while the decoder stays free and needs no registration.

Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used, so they cannot appear in a genuine one. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the region. We do not yet have any WMI codes mapped to BAIC Motor, so we cannot list a prefix or a country here. The decoder still reads the VIN you enter and shows what it can from the standard layout.
Characters 4 to 8 form the descriptor section, and character 9 is the check digit. North American VINs are required to use it as a check digit, while many European VINs fill it differently. Character 10 gives the model year. A BAIC Motor from the end of our range, such as the BJ 2020, carries the letter L there, and K stands for 1989, the first year in our version data. Character 11 marks the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.
Enter the 17-character VIN and see the factory basics in seconds.
Look at the vehicle registration document first, then check the car itself. The VIN is commonly stamped or printed at the base of the windscreen or on a plate in the door frame. Make sure the number on the car matches the paperwork character for character.
The first three characters are the WMI, which points to the manufacturer and where the vehicle was made. We have no WMI codes mapped to this brand at the moment, so we show no list. A VIN that begins differently from anything you have seen is not a reason for concern on its own.
Read the 10th character. L means 2020, which fits the BJ 2020, and K means 1989. Our version data for the brand runs from 1989 to 2020.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or the number of owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It gives you the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture, and nothing beyond that.
Confirm that the VIN has 17 characters, contains no I, O or Q, and matches the registration papers and the number on the car. Then check that the model year in character 10 agrees with what the seller says. Ask to see service records and inspect the car in person.
