This page decodes the 17-character VIN of a BAC. Our data covers one model, the Mono, a Roadster with model years from 2016 to 2020. Enter the VIN and the decoder reads what is built into the number itself, such as the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture.
A VIN does not record accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report. The decoder is free and needs no registration.

Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is a check digit, character 10 gives the model year, character 11 the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. The check digit is required in North America, while many European VINs fill that position differently.
At the moment we have no WMI code that we map to BAC, so we cannot list any here, and we have no country information for the brand. Our list of codes is not complete, so a VIN that starts with other characters is not a reason for concern. If you enter one, the decoder will simply show what it can recognise.
The model year is the part you can check yourself. Our version data for the Mono runs from 2016 to 2020, which corresponds to the tenth character G for 2016, H for 2017, J for 2018, K for 2019 and L for 2020. A VIN that carries one of these letters in position 10 fits that range.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Look at the vehicle's registration papers and at the VIN marking on the car itself. The two should show the same 17 characters, so compare them character by character before you decode.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. We do not currently have a WMI code mapped to BAC, so we cannot name one here. That does not make any particular VIN wrong, because our list is not complete.
Read the tenth character. Within our data for the Mono, G means 2016, H 2017, J 2018, K 2019 and L 2020.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft or owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It also does not give power figures for the Mono, as we have no such data.
Make sure the VIN in the documents matches the VIN on the car, and that the tenth character agrees with the model year you were told. Then ask for service records and have the car inspected in person.
