Enter the 17-character VIN of an Avatr and the decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture from the code. Our data for the brand covers two models, including the 11 and the 12, with model years from 2022 to 2023 and SUV as the body style.
A VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft records or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report. The decoder itself is free and needs no registration.
Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. We do not currently have any WMI codes mapped to Avatr, so we cannot list specific ones here. That is a limit of our list, not a comment on any particular VIN.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is the check digit. North American VINs must use it, while many European VINs fill it differently. Character 10 is the model year. For the years in our Avatr data, N stands for 2022 and P for 2023. Character 11 marks the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

The VIN is normally shown on the vehicle registration papers and on a plate or label on the car itself, often at the base of the windscreen or on a door pillar. Compare the number on the car with the one in the papers before you enter it.
The first three characters are the WMI, which points to the manufacturer and country. We have no WMI codes mapped to Avatr at the moment, so we cannot name any here.
Look at the 10th character. N means 2022 and P means 2023, which are the model years in our Avatr data. The decoder reads this character for you.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It only reads the code itself: manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the registration papers, and decode it to confirm the model year fits what the seller says. Then inspect the car in person and ask for service records.
