Enter a 17-character VIN and the Aiways decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture from it. Our data for the brand lists two models, U5 and U6, with the SUV body style and version data for model years 2019 to 2022.
A VIN only identifies the car. It says nothing about accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners, and that information comes from a paid vehicle history report. The decoder itself is free and needs no registration.
Every VIN on a car built since 1981 has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, which names the manufacturer and the region of manufacture. At the moment we have no WMI codes on record for Aiways, so this page cannot list any prefixes or countries. That is a limit of our list, not a statement about any particular VIN.
Characters 4 to 8 form the descriptor section, and character 9 is the check digit. North America requires it, while many European VINs fill that position in a different way. Character 10 gives the model year, and for the years in our Aiways data it works like this: K is 2019, L is 2020, M is 2021 and N is 2022.
Character 11 marks the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. If you are looking at a U5 or a U6, the tenth character is a quick way to check that the year in an advert fits the car.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

On most cars it is printed at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side and on the registration documents. Copy all 17 characters exactly, and remember that the letters I, O and Q do not appear in a VIN.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and region. We have no WMI codes mapped to Aiways yet, so we cannot list them here. Our list is not complete, and a VIN that starts with other characters is not a cause for concern.
Look at the 10th character. In the range covered by our data, K means 2019, L means 2020, M means 2021 and N means 2022.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or the number of owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. The decoder only reads what is encoded in the 17 characters.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the one in the documents and that the model year character fits the year in the advert. Then ask for service records and have the car inspected in person.
