The Abarth decoder reads the 17-character VIN and tells you the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for the brand lists 8 models: 124 Spider, 500, 595, 600, 695, Fastback, Pulse and Punto. Version data covers model years 2007 to 2024, in body styles from Roadster, Convertible and Cabriolet to Hatchback and SUV, with the highest power in our data at 190 hp.
A VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report. The decoder on this page is free and needs no registration.
Every VIN for a car built since 1981 has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. Characters 1 to 3 are the WMI, which names the manufacturer. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is a check digit, character 10 is the model year, character 11 the plant, and characters 12 to 17 the serial number. The check digit is required in North America, while many European VINs fill that position differently, so do not read anything into it on its own.
At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to Abarth, so there is no list of first-three-character codes to show here. That does not say anything about any particular VIN, it only means our list is incomplete. The model year is easier to illustrate. Our version data runs from 2007 to 2024, which on the tenth character means 7 for 2007, F for 2015 and R for 2024. Enter the full VIN above and the decoder does this lookup for you.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Check the registration papers first, since the VIN is printed there. On the car itself it is often visible at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side, but the position can vary, so compare the number on the car with the one in the documents.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. We do not currently list any WMI codes for Abarth, so this page cannot confirm the brand from those characters alone.
Look at the tenth character of the VIN. A 7 stands for 2007, F for 2015 and R for 2024, and our version data for the brand covers 2007 to 2024. The decoder shows the year as soon as you enter the full 17 characters.
It reads only the VIN, so it cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or the number of owners. None of that is stored in the 17 characters.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the VIN in the registration papers, then decode it and compare the model year and country with what the seller tells you. Ask for service records, and look closely at the body style and version you are being offered, since the same name can cover several of them.
